An Award-Winning Writer Who Creates
With Passion and Precision
As a writer, I work in creative nonfiction and nonfiction. I believe there is always a place for beautiful lyrical language to enhance storytelling.
As an essayist, I strive to put feelings and perspectives into words. From social justice issues to cultural commentary to opinion pieces, I seek to join the conversations of the moment.
As a poet, I seek to understand the complexities of the world and the people within it.
About Me
I am Renee M. Gilmore, a neurodivergent multi-genre writer, essayist, and poet. I write about growing up in a small town, and fearlessly explore the illusion of happiness. With a BA from the University of New Mexico and an MA from Hamline University, my work has been featured in The Louisville Review, The Museum of Americana, Fatal Flaw, The Raven Review, and Pink Panther, among others.
I love to travel, and my husband and I have been to all seven continents. Experiencing other places and other cultures feeds my creativity (and my love of good food!) I’m a fan of F1 racing and car shows, and live in suburban Minneapolis with my husband Steven. Unlike the rest of my car-loving family, my red car is perpetually overdue for an oil change.
